The lunch spot is by Beacon Tarn, which features in Arthur Ransome's 'Swallowdale', before a steep climb on to Beacon (255m) with excellent views of Coniston Water and Coniston Old Man (weather permitting). The return walk passes a second tarn and the site of a 13th century corn mill, later converted for fulling.Paths are generally good but there are some sections that are rough, stony and boggy. There is a steep ascent and descent on grass requiring care.Grade 4 walks are generally full day walks that include hilly ground and require a reasonable level of fitness. You might encounter climbs up some steeper sections. The surfaces may be rough and uneven, with rocky or muddy sections, and you may also find yourself walking up irregular steps, over stiles or through narrow gates and gaps.Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.Public transport: There is no public transport service to Torver on a Saturday.Your confirmation email will include full details - please read it carefully.
