📍 Where You’ll Be Meeting
Meeting spot: Last lifeguard station on the Malaga Cove side of Torrance Beach — this is at the southern end of Torrance Beach where it meets RAT Beach/Malaga Cove. Locals refer to this area as RAT Beach (short for “Right After Torrance” stretch of sand between Torrance Beach and Malaga Cove).
🚗 Parking Options
1. Paid Parking – Torrance Beach Side (Best for Easy, Direct Access)
There’s a large county-run paid lot along Paseo de la Playa (between Calle Miramar and Via Riviera). This lot is closest to Torrance Beach proper and a short walk south along the sand/bike path to the meeting point.
Advantages:
Most direct beach access.
No steep hills.
Easy for most participants.
Disadvantage:
Parking fee applies (usually metered or pay-to-park lot).
2. Free Parking – Palos Verdes Side (Via Arroyo / Paseo de la Mar)
On the Palos Verdes Estates side of the cliffs, there’s free street/public parking near the intersection of Paseo de Mar & Via Arroyo. From there, you walk down the Malaga Cove Trail — a mostly paved, moderate descent — down to RAT Beach.
Important note: The walk down is easy, but the walk back up big hill to return to cars is strenuous. This is ideal for attendees who are comfortable with a hill walk.
Advantages:
Free parking.
Scenic trail walk.
Disadvantage:
Climb back up at the end of your clean-up.
🧭 How to Reach the Meeting Spot
From Torrance Beach Parking (Paid Lot)
Park along Paseo de la Playa near Calle Miramar / Via Riviera.
Walk south along the sandy beach or the beach bike path toward the cliffs of Palos Verdes.
Continue to the last lifeguard station before Malaga Cove/RAT Beach — this is your meeting point.
From Palos Verdes (Free Parking on Paseo de Mar)
Park near Paseo de Mar & Via Arroyo (Palos Verdes Estates).
Find the Malaga Cove Trail heading down the bluff toward the water.
Follow it to the beach, then turn north to the sandy area of RAT Beach / Torrance Beach.
Walk north along the sand to the last lifeguard tower toward Malaga Cove — that’s your meetup location.
🗺️ Helpful Tips
This area is part of the long Santa Monica Bay shoreline, and the beach transitions smoothly from Torrance Beach into RAT Beach/Malaga Cove.
The bike path (Marvin Braude Bike Trail) runs along the bluffs above the beach; walking along the sand often feels faster.
Safety first: wear sunscreen, bring water, and consider the hill walk for those parked on the Palos Verdes side.
