About the event

The Art of War: Tangible Cultural Heritage as a Conflict Resource
The Art of War: Tangible Cultural Heritage as a Conflict Resource
🗓 Thursday, December 11, 2025 | 7:00 PM
📍 Old Mill Toronto – Westminster Room

The guest speaker will be Alexandra Shkandrij, a PhD student in Political Science at the University of Toronto whose research examines the intersection of art, conflict, and identity, with a particular focus on Ukraine. She investigates the conditions under which armies loot, destroy, sell, or repurpose tangible cultural property—sites, monuments, artworks, and artifacts that preserve historical memory. The lecture will explore under what conditions belligerents target military versus symbolic sites, and how their choices reflect short-term versus long-term strategic goals.

A parking pass may be downloaded in advance on www.ucrainica.ca.
