Participants will engage with image-making as a layered, tactile process, expanding their understanding of photography beyond the frame and into the realm of physical intervention, encouraging experimentation and cross-disciplinary play.–Workshop DescriptionLight Stroke: Cameraless Mark MakingDrawing on the related techniques of lumen printing and chemigrams, this workshop will teach participants how to make painterly, cameraless photographs using light, chemistry and silver-gelatin paper. The session will use both traditional and plant-based photographic chemistry, along with a variety of simple tools and materials for mark-making, to create tactile, experimental images that blur the line between painting and photography. No previous experience is required. All materials will be provided; participants are welcome to bring any expired or fogged photo papers they may have.Bio:Julie Pasila is an artist from Tkaronto/Toronto. Her practice is deeply analogue, experimental, and broadly concerned with the natural world. She works collaboratively with the landscape, using reactive, sensitive materials to render ephemeral elements like sunlight, breezes and bodies of water into photographs.
