Julia will showcase local and international innovative programs and frameworks facilitating connections for older adults – from dementia care farms and “wild” nursing homes to virtual phone buddy programs and choirs. Julia will also discuss how social prescribing can address issues such as emergency department overuse, caregiver fatigue, health inequalities, transportation barriers, and ageism, and share how community members can get involved in social prescribing and social connection.Light refreshments will be provided during the program.Julia Hotz is a journalist and award-winning author of The Connection Cure – the first book chronicling the science and stories of social prescribing.Located at Northern District Branch, Toronto Public Library in Room 200, second floor.RegistrationThis event is free to join but registration is required on AccessibilityLive or automated closed captioning, sign language interpretation, intervenor services, or attendant services are available upon request.
