Rad Yiddish and UJPO present Reclaiming Myths & Magic: Storytelling & Performance Workshop with community-arts facilitator Ruth Howard 


📅Saturday November 15

🕑2:00-5:00PM (Doors at 1:30PM)

📍Jumblies Theatre - 132 Fort York Blvd


🎭Calling creative people of all abilities ages and backgrounds - come explore tales of Jewish witches protective powers and magic gifts hidden and unharnessed - reframing reclaiming and reinventing myths of survival and resistance into new collective stories.


📜Combining words imagery object play/puppetry gesture sound staging and other artistic forms through rapid accessible exercises we’ll end the day with a final short group performance.


🎨Leave with a repertoire of approaches processes and materials to bring into future story-making and arts projects


No experience necessary. Suitable for creative people of all abilities ages and backgrounds. Please note: children under 13 must participate in the workshop with an adult.

ACCESSIBILITY


🏢This workshop takes place in two Jumblies Theatre spaces 1. The Ground Floor and 2. The Upstairs Studio 


1. The Ground Floor offers step-free access throughout. The main entrance has a push-button power assisted door. There is a small angled lip of less than 1-inch at the doorway.


There is a single-stall all-gender washroom. The washroom has grab bars behind and adjacent to the toilet a wheelchair-accessible sink and sufficient space for wheelchair users. The washroom doors open with a push-button but do require a door handle to be manually turned and locked. Workshop staff will be onsite to assist with the washroom doors as needed.


2. The Upstairs Studio is accessed from Dan Leckie Waynext to the Tim Hortons. The entrance has a push-button power assisted door. There is an elevator and stairs going to the second floor. There is also an accessible washroom on the same floor.


Please note: this building entrance requires a fob. If you arrive late a number to call will be listed so that a staff person can come let you in.

FACILITATOR BIO


Ruth Howard is an interdisciplinary artist and founding Artistic Director of Jumblies: a Toronto-based community-engaged arts company. With Jumblies from 2001 to 2022 Ruth produced multi-year residencies in Toronto neighbourhoods as well as cross-country tours new musical and dance works festivals films books and many other collaborative community projects. Ruth has also worked across Canada and in the UK as a theatre designer taught in many and varied contexts mentored many artists and organizations and won awards and recognition for her work. In 2023 Ruth stepped aside from Jumblies' leadership continuing to work as an independent artist and consultant.
