At the beginning of every lineage there was a fire, a drum, and a song. Elder and community song-leader Laurence Cole reminds that “song is one of our most ancient technologies of belonging.” We gather to remember our innate connection to sound, breath, and rhythm. To play, laugh, cry, and bow in reverence to our collective aliveness. This is a space to bring your joy, your grief, and everything in between. We will explore simple songs and juicy layered harmonies through the oral tradition of call and response. No prior experience with singing is necessary. Whether you are passionate for solo singing, campfire jams, or someone who believes “I am not a singer,” this space is for you.The gathering will close with a soothing sound bath to support integration and release. A sound bath is a full-body listening experience, featuring live frequencies including crystal singing bowls, voice, drum, and more. These vibrations have been shown to activate therapeutic processes such as regulating the nervous system, softening physical tension, slowing the brainwaves, and cultivating deep cellular rest.This session is planned to take place outdoors, just prior to sunset. Alongside her practice in healthcare, she works as a certified sound therapy practitioner, yoga instructor, meditation guide, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter. Michaela is committed to upholding an approach to care that is anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, person-centered, and 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming. Michaela is a certified facilitator of Compassion-Based Resilience Training and mindfulness for stress reduction, addiction recovery, and chronic pain. With an interdisciplinary background in theatre, music, movement, and energy-work, Michaela brings a holistic, eclectic, and playful energy to her practice. She supports people across the lifespan within both community and clinical settings including mental health care, oncology, palliative care, women’s health, and paediatric rehabilitation. Michaela anchors her approach to community care within a framework social justice and collective liberation.
