Challenging the assumption that gender expresses an underlying reality, Butler argues that gender is produced through social practices, cultural expectations, and repeated acts. The book remains one of the foundational texts of contemporary feminist and queer theory, inviting readers to reconsider the categories through which we understand ourselves and others.Together, we will explore questions of identity, embodiment, social norms, power, and belonging, while remaining open to the unexpected directions that emerge through collective reading and dialogue.Location: Creative Space, Rayat Magazine (3rd Floor)6 Saint Joseph Street, TorontoOnline participation available.Please note that the venue is located on the third floor and, unfortunately, does not have elevator access.
