Racist bigots are planning to use Christie Pits park as the location for a rally promoting hatred and mass deportations of non-white Canadians, denying actual lovers of Christie Pits, including families and children, the right to enjoy the park in peace and safety. Instead, let’s fill the space ourselves to celebrate and support our diverse and welcoming community, and say NO! to MAGA-style racism in our city.
92 years ago, on August 16 1933, during a baseball game in Christie Pits park, a gang of Nazi enthusiasts waving a swastika flag to intimidate Jewish players and spectators were driven out of the park when the community rose up against them. On September 13, let’s honour and uphold this legacy of solidarity, community, and standing up for our neighbours.
Bring friends, water, snacks, art supplies and noisemakers and anything else you’ll need to spend an afternoon in the park. Masking is strongly encouraged for the safety of all attendees, and masks will be available for anyone who needs one.
