Since 2021, historian Peter Vronsky has spent years interviewing Cottingham in Pr*son while assisting police in closing 11 of those cold cases, including murders committed more than fifty years ago.This lecture looks at the method behind that work: geographic profiling, which maps where victims were encountered, where crimes took place and where bodies were found to reconstruct a killer’s movements and connect crimes committed years apart. Vronsky will trace its history from techniques used by the Nazi Gestapo to its use in modern serial M**der investigations.The same method is now used far beyond serial homicide, including to map insurgents, smugglers, clandestine cross-border migration and even malaria-carrying mosquitoes.Peter Vronsky is a historian and the author of four books on the history of serial homicide, including Serial Killers, Female Serial Killers, Sons of Cain and American Serial Killers. He holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and teaches international relations, espionage and the history of Nazi Germany at Toronto Metropolitan University.
