Like the members of our community, they'll spend the first few years setting down roots -- penetrating deep ito improve the soil and increase rainfall infiltration -- before taking off! Once established, these plants will help to improve air quality, provide cooling shade, and food & habitat for pollinators and other desirable wildlife.Don't be afraid to think big! While larger trees do need room to grow, your yard has unlimited vertical space -- and trees tend to grow only 1-3ft per year."The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now"All trees/shrubs must be planted on private land in Toronto. Quantities are very limited -- no more than 3 trees/shrubs per household.
