This conference aims to foster collective unity in the Filipino community who are engaged in arts and culture. Overseas, Filipino youth face a wide range of issues from exploitation at their workplace, loss of culture, family separation, loneliness, social isolation, confusion on cultural identity, and lack of connection. Arts and culture play a multi-faceted role in the youth and other overseas Filipinos in staying in touch with their culture, learning their roots and history, developing their skills of articulation and expression, and building community. It also plays an important role in highlighting social issues to the Filipino community.
This conference aims to tackle the following:
1. Questions surrounding the issues and needs of Filipino youth and why these arise in the first place.
2. Building community through arts & culture and strengthening existing ones. What can be done collectively?
3. The role of arts and culture in influencing society and the social class stances of differing art forms.
