A trailblazer, educator and lifelong advocate for equity, Dr. Augustine made history as the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament. Her leadership and unwavering dedication to education, public service and the advancement of Black communities have left an indelible mark on Canada and continue to inspire generations of artists, leaders and changemakers.The evening will feature the Canadian Premiere of Queen of Soca, directed by Kevin Adams and starring Trinidad and Tobago’s 2026 Calypso Monarch, Terri Lyons. Filled with music, heart and Caribbean spirit, Queen of Soca follows Olivia, a gifted young singer caught between family expectations, faith and her dreams of becoming a performer. It is an uplifting coming-of-age story about self-discovery, resilience and finding the courage to follow your own path.As part of the celebration, Screen Share will present the Jean Augustine Excellence Award, recognizing individuals whose vision, creativity, leadership and achievements have inspired others and enriched our cultural and social landscape. Following the screening, guests are invited to continue the festivities with cocktails, music and a lively Caribbean-inspired after-party featuring a DJ. Come celebrate an extraordinary Canadian icon, experience a joyful new Caribbean film and connect with filmmakers, artists, community leaders and audiences from across Toronto and the Caribbean diaspora.
