About the event

Floral Design Program: Ikebana
Expand your Floral Design knowledge through this course, teaching the ancient Japanese art form of flower arranging.

About this Event

Ikebana is the ancient Japanese art form of flower arranging. The Sogetsu School of Ikebana reflects modern lifestyles and focuses on encounters between two ever-changing entities: humans and nature.

Prerequisites: Sogetsu Ikebana has no prerequisites.

Many of our courses have a part one and a part two which teaches more advanced work. If you have already taken Ikebana and wish to extend your knowledge, you may sign up for this course again and an advanced program will be taught within it. You will get a separate credit for Ikebana 2.

Course fees do not include flowers or supplies. A materials list will be emailed prior to the start of each class.

About Margaret Taylor

For 25 years, Margaret’s passion for flowers has led her to exhibit, judge, demonstrate and teach floral design in Canada and abroad. A recipient of many awards, Margaret’s accolades include three Canada Blooms’ Founder’s Gold Cups for Best in Show. Margaret has also won Best in Show on three occasions at the provincial triennial show and as a result, has been chosen to represent Canada in two world shows. It was her greatest honour to exhibit for Canada both in Boston and in India.

Margaret is currently a floral design judge accredited by the Garden Clubs of Ontario, a horticultural judge accredited by the Royal Botanical Gardens and a rose judge accredited by the Canadian Rose Society. Margaret is also a Sogetsu Ikebana teacher and exhibitor. She is the current Director of the Toronto Sogetsu Chapter and on the board of the Japanese Garden Club as the Ikebana Coordinator.
