A Hudson’s Bay blanket coat shows how a commercial textile became tied to winter, early commerce in Canada, and one of the most recognizable images of Canadian life.Drawing from Canadian Fashion Economies, this lecture will show how clothing has carried evidence of labour, identity, creativity, and memory. It examines garments not as decorative objects, but as an archive of Canadian history itself.Dr. Mark Joseph O’Connell is a Professor of Fashion Studies at Seneca Polytechnic whose work examines fashion history, material culture, and the politics of dress.
