McCarthy is a seventh-generation African Canadian spoken word poet, writer, public speaker, and culture correspondent for Maritime EDIT magazine.McCarthy played a key role in having August 1 recognized as Emancipation Day in New Brunswick, and his Still Here Initiative celebrates fifteen multigenerational Black New Brunswick families.
