No previous musical or drumming experience is necessary.From there, we’ll bring those same rhythmic patterns into our breathwork practice, exploring how rhythm can influence our breath, our bodies and our experience.After the breathwork, we’ll return to the drums for a shared circle, followed by journaling, reflection, nourishment and connection—creating space to integrate and simply be.🥁 Meet Beny EsguerraLeading our drumming experience is Beny Esguerra, a Toronto-based, two-time JUNO-nominated musician, producer, spoken-word artist, arts educator and community worker.Beny is the co-founder of New Tradition Music, a multidisciplinary project that bridges Afro-Indigenous Colombian musical traditions with Hip Hop, spoken word and contemporary sounds. His artistic practice brings together ancestral instruments, percussion, storytelling and contemporary musical expression.With a background spanning more than two decades, Beny has developed and facilitated interactive drumming, storytelling and beat-making workshops in schools, universities and community settings across Ontario. His work as an arts educator has been recognized with the Ontario Arts Foundation Arts Educator Award, alongside other honours for his contribution to arts and community.Beny is also a PhD (ABD) candidate in Musicology/Ethnomusicology, specializing in Colombian traditional music and Hip Hop culture.
