- **Event Description**: Discover how a former industrial brickyard is now a hub for Toronto’s South Asian community.About this EventLearn how one of Toronto’s first Bollywood movie theatres transformed this East End neighbourhood into an international destination for South Asian culture during the 1970s and 1980s.On this walk, we'll explore this unparalled bazaar, a business-based enclave formed by multiple entrepreneurial immigrants, stopping at locations like the Lahore Tikka House, known for barbecued green chilies, and Chandan Fashion, the star of the reality show Bollywed.About the Tour LeaderSarah Takhar (she/her) holds an undergraduate degree in Archaeology from the University of Edinburgh and a master’s degree in Museum and Gallery Studies from the University of St Andrews. Sarah is an experienced international researcher and museum educator who has previously worked with organisations such as the Museum on the Mound, the Scottish Maritime Museum, and the Aurora Historical Society. Sarah is passionate about investigating heritage through a transnational lens, and exploring the cross-cultural connections of history. Sarah is currently the Programming and Outreach Coordinator for the Museum of Dufferin, where she helps people connect with their local history.Start Point: Northeast side of Greenwood Park (150 Greenwood Ave)Our staff and volunteers will be at the tour's starting location 30 minutes prior to each tour. Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the tour to allow time for check-in. Feel free to call us at (647) 542-3450 if you are having trouble finding the start location.End Point: East End United Church (1470 Gerrard Street East)Length of Tour: Approximately 90 minutesDistance and Terrain: This tour is approximately 1.5 kilometres in distance and takes place predominantly on paved city sidewalks and streets.Ticket Price and Registration: This tour is provided for $8.00/person. The total cost is $10.05 (includes a $2.05 transaction fee). Please note that space is limited on our tours. You may not be able to join a tour group if you have not registered ahead of time. Cash cannot be accepted onsite.This tour uses individual audio headsets.
