They have toured across North America and Europe with a variety of bands. Kai received the Toronto Arts Foundation Emerging Jazz Artist Award of 2023. This inspires me on a daily basis.”Set 2: Dhaivat JaniDhaivat Jani is a Toronto-based, award-winning drummer, tabla player, and composer originally from Ahmedabad, India. His musical journey began at the age of five with a focus on Indian classical music. By 16, he had earned my tabla Visharad with three gold medals. After graduating from Humber College with a Bachelor of Music, he made Toronto home in 2018.In 2023, he released his debut album, Sum // Parts, with his contemporary jazz ensemble, Dhaivat Jani PLUS. The album earned praise from notable outlets like All About Jazz, Paris Move, and Jazz.FM91. Alongside leading the ensemble, he's travelled around the world performing music with various musicians and collaborating widely as a sideman, transitioning fluidly between drums and tabla across a variety of genres. Recently, he's worked with renowned artists such as Pat LaBarbera, Hamid Motebassem, Kiran Ahluwalia, Roberto Occhipinti, Rez Abbasi, Mike Downes, Adam Rudolp, Naseer Shamma and more.Set 3: Sean NimmonsA native of Toronto, Sean developed his passion for creating music at a young age. His upbringing in an accomplished musical family led him to a career as a working musician, performing full-time on stages throughout Canada and internationally. In 2025, he was among the musicians chosen to honour Oscar Peterson on his 100th birthday, for the OP100 celebrations at Massey Hall. Sean also accompanied astronaut Col. Chris Hadfield during a performance for Coalition Canada’s annual Music Monday event, marking the first live, space-to-earth national sing-along. An honours graduate of the acclaimed Humber College Music program, he later earned a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto. In 2009, Sean began a career as a composer for film and TV, first at the audio house Silent Joe, and later establishing himself as an in-demand freelancer. In 2020, Sean established his group The Nimmons Tribute, which honours the legacy of his grandfather - clarinetist, bandleader and composer Phil Nimmons O.C., O. Ont. The octet has released two critically acclaimed albums, Vol. 1 - To The Nth in 2020, and Vol. 2 - Generational in 2023. As the arranger, producer and pianist of The Nimmons Tribute, Sean created records that bridge the gap between his musical heritage and his own legacy. Fortified by some of Canada’s most respected musicians, the recordings contain arrangements of his grandfather’s charts and his own original compositions. Both albums have received favourable press and airplay in Canada and internationally, recognized on annual lists of best jazz recordings in publications such as The Ottawa Citizen and Jazz.FM91. Sean works full-time performing, composing, recording and producing music from his studio in Toronto.
