The Australian Cultural Library is 100% volunteer run. We are an independent reference library of donated arts/culture/humanities material.


ABOUT GRAHAM BURSTOW: UNSEEN
Graham Burstow OAM was an unassuming giant in the world of Australian photography.
Described by the Queensland Art Gallery as a subject-driven social documentarian, his black & white photographs captured everyday life, including leisure activities and beach culture.

Graham Burstow was a founding member of the Australian Photographic Society, an active member of many other photographic organisations, and an honorary member of the Australian Cultural Library. Consistent with his life of service to photography, Graham would visit ACL in our Toowoomba days, and generously take time to discuss photographic techniques with our volunteers or visitors, humbly offering a mix of insight and inspiration.

He was held in very high regard and was awarded an impressive array of post-nominals (Graham Burstow OAM FPSQ FAPS FRPS FPSA EFIAP HAFB HFAPS PSQA).

Graham Burstow: Unseen exhibition was curated posthumously by his granddaughter Mikaela Burstow and exhibited at Brisbane's Maud Street Photo Gallery in 2024, before being generously donated by the family to the Australian Cultural Library. It features previously unpublished photographs from south-east Queensland in the 1970s and 80s.
