Key aspects of a FREC 3 course
Qualification: It is a Qualsafe Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF).
Entry Level: It serves as a nationally recognized entry-level qualification for sectors such as the event medical, private ambulance, and security industries.
Prerequisites: You must be at least 17 years old and have a basic understanding of first aid. A Level 2 in literacy is recommended.
Curriculum: The course covers advanced skills like:
Enhanced trauma and injury management
Catastrophic bleeding control using tourniquets and haemostatic agents
Oxygen therapy and bag-valve mask use
Spinal immobilization
Airway and breathing management
Scene assessment and triage
Major illnesses and emergency oxygen administration
Duration: The full course is typically 5 days of immersive, practical training, though shorter conversion courses may be available for those with existing relevant experience.
Validation: The qualification is valid for three years, after which a renewal course is required to maintain certification.
Progression: It is the first step in a progressive pathway that can lead to higher-level qualifications, such as FREC 4, and ultimately to the Qualsafe Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice.
