From high-elevation headwaters to arid valley rivers, the Okanogan Highlands are home to a few salmonid species, with complex and often unseen lives. This presentation will discuss the species found in the region, how to identify them, and the remarkable life histories that allow these unique fish to survive in challenging landscapes. We will discuss the future of these species and practical actions that landowners, communities, and agencies can take to help sustain salmonids in the Okanogan Highlands.

Elianna Rosenthal is a Habitat Biologist for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). In her current position, she permits hydraulic projects, comments on land developments and timber sales, and provides technical assistance on projects. Her love of all things aquatic started at a young age and continued through work at an aquarium, multiple salmon hatcheries, and her master's research with juvenile chinook salmon.
