The Todd Community Christmas Tree is organized by the Todd Ruritan Scholarship Committee to bring joy to the Todd Community and raise money for the Ruby A. Trivette Scholarship Fund.
The tree lighting ceremony will be at 6pm on December 12 in the field between the Todd Mercantile and South Fork Baptist Church. Everyone is invited! Come enjoy a Christmas cookie and a cup of hot apple cider or hot chocolate (free for all).
For a $5 contribution, you may sponsor a light on the Todd Community Christmas tree. All donations go to the Ruby A. Trivette Scholarship Fund. Donate in person at the tree lighting (just ask and we'll point you to the right person) or by mailing a check made out to the Ruby A Trivette Ruritan Scholarship Endowment to Todd Ruritan Scholarship Committee, Larry Triivette, 10550 NC HYW 194 N, Todd, NC 28684.
In 2000, the Todd Ruritan Club established the Ruby A. Trivette Scholarship Fund to honor one of our community's most cherished educators. Ruby Trivette was not only a lifelong member of the Todd community, but also a devoted teacher. In a time when it was rare for a woman to receive higher education, Ruby worked to attain both a B.A. and M.A. degree from Appalachian State University. Ever devoted to her hometown, she returned to Todd to share her love of learning and language. For over 40 years, the young people of Ashe County passed through Ruby's English and French classes, many of whom would later thank her for the strong influence she had on their lives.
In her 99 years of life, Ruby inspired countless members of our community to pursue their education and strive for excellence. In the spirit of Ruby, our scholarship seeks to enrich the education of graduating high school seniors who reside in Todd. To date, 40 scholarships have been awarded.
