This training explores how trauma is held and expressed in the body and how this is communicated using sand as the embodied experience.

About this Event

Welcome to Trauma and the Body: Somatic Storytelling in the Tray event happening at 2205 York Rd on February 4, 2026 at 10:00 AM (Eastern Time)! Join us for an insightful exploration of how trauma manifests in the body through somatic storytelling. Discover the power of connecting with your body to heal past wounds and create a new narrative. This event is perfect for anyone interested in understanding the mind-body connection and exploring healing modalities. Come ready to engage, learn, and grow together!

Trauma imprints itself not only in memory and emotion but also in the sensory and somatic systems of the body. This training provides a clinical framework for identifying somatic trauma expressions in sand tray and for supporting individuals in translating body-based experiences into symbolic and narrative forms. Participants will learn developmentally attuned interventions that integrate body awareness, sensory-motor sequencing, and structured movement with sand tray work to promote regulation, coherence, and trauma integration. Emphasis is placed on clinical attunement, pacing, therapeutic presence, and ethical application within trauma-responsive practice.

Objectives:

  • Describe the ways somatic trauma experiences manifest in children’s behavior, play, and symbolic expression.
  • Demonstrate somatic-informed sand tray and play-based interventions that support emotional regulation and trauma processing.
  • Integrate body-based awareness, grounding strategies, and sensory-motor approaches into trauma-responsive treatment plans.
  • Assess body-based trauma manifestations and patterns of somatic communication in child and adolescent clients.
  • Apply somatic-responsive sand tray interventions that support stabilization, emotional expression, and mind-body regulation.
