After more than a century of silence, Timaru will finally acknowledge the more than 700 people who were laid to rest in the Free Ground and unmarked graves at the Timaru Cemetery.
Please join Les Jones and me, Roselyn Fauth, at 10 am on Sunday 14 December 2025 for the unveiling of a new community-led memorial that brings visibility, dignity, and compassion to this quiet stretch of lawn that holds so many stories.
We are honoured to be joined by His Worship the Mayor Nigel Bowen and Hon James Meager MP, who will unveil the plaque.
This project has been created entirely through local fundraising, volunteer effort, and the generosity of many who wanted to ensure these lives are finally acknowledged.
If you have a heart for history, remembrance, or community, we would love to have you there.
Your presence will help honour those who were never given a marker, and ensure they are forgotten no longer.
