We are going to be celebrating Sea Week during Sat. 28 February – Sun. 8 March 2026
As part of the week we are hosting an Eco Talk about connecting with our moana. We are excited to have 3 local speakers
- Little Blue Penguins – Marijke Bakker Penguins First Timaru
- Eels – Kennedy Lange Environment Canterbury
- Rocky Shore – Keely Kroening South Canterbury Museum
We are also collaborating with our community to create a programme of events for Sea Week. More information here.
Ideas you might be able to contribute with – beach clean up, citizen science – Marine Metre Squared or iNaturalist, yoga on the beach, ocean themed crafts, Young Ocean Explorers 21 day challenge for your class, moana movie, kayaking / paddleboarding on the moana, plastic free challenges, guest speakers, visit the Little Blue Penguins …. throw us your ideas.
7pm – 9pm, speaker, Q and A, finishing with supper.
There will be a cover charge of $5 for this event to go towards supper.

This event is part of the South Canterbury Eco Centre’s monthly “Eco Talks”. During the first week of most months we aim to have a presenter, followed by supper. These sessions will be a minimum of $5 per person and can be booked via our website. If you would prefer to pay cash on the night, let us know as we appreciate knowing how many we are catering for –
