Rewilding - what exactly is it?
Is it restoring land for nature and managing it so that negative human impacts are suppressed? Or is it allowing natural succession to take its course without intervention? How will lack of top carnivores/ invasive species etc. affect this in a place like Ireland where little remains of the natural ecosystems? Does it mean abandoning hard-won agricultural land? Does rewilding mean letting native forests take over or could other ecosystem types be involved? How does Climate Change impact on this?
Rewilding is one of the most important ways of restoring biodiversity and helping all the different levels of food webs from herbivorous insects right up to top carnivores.
Eanna will explain how it can be done and what the audience can do - even if they never own any land themselves. But first they have to know why it is important, why it is essential that it should be happening and that the efforts made by others should be encouraged and supported.
If we don't notice that we are losing our wild world, if we no longer look at or listen to the world of nature then we won't know or care when it has gone past the point of no return.
You owe it to yourself to come and listen to this inspiring speaker.
