Dette er en anderledes udstilling og dermed også en anderledes fernisering. I en tid med fortællinger om sammenbrud, nedgang, statsterrorisme og ledere med storhedsvanvid sætter vi fokus på fællesskabet og håndens arbejde som et demokratisk værktøj. Udstillingen er åben indtil 3. august 2025.

Soloudstillingen "Saving Nine" af den tyrkisk-canadiske kunstner Elif Saydam begynder med en række workshops; bl.a. på denne dag til ferniseringen og senere med vores formidlingssamarbejdspartnere samt andre lokale grupper. Der farves blandt andet store stykker lærred direkte på kunsthallens rustne tag og med cyanotypi. 

Til ferniseringen syr vi sammen på det store fællesskabsbaserede værk, der giver associationer til quiltning og community art. Du vil blive taget i hånden af Elif, Rasmus og resten af vores team og blive inviteret til at bidrage til kunstværket, som vil have os alle som afsender. Her kan du lære at udføre quiltningmønstret "log-cabin" og få en social oplevelse, mens vi er beskæftiget med hænderne.

Man må selvfølgelig også gerne bare kigge på, snakke og nyde kaffe, brød og vin.

Elif Saydam (f. 1985, Canada) bor og arbejder mellem Berlin, DE og Izmir, TR. Gennem en udvidet malerisk praksis bruger Saydam ornamentikens og dekorationens sprog til at omarrangere systemer for værdisætning og betoning. De samarbejder ofte om tværfaglige tekstbaserede projekter med andre kunstnere og forfattere. Saydam modtog Hessische Kulturstiftungs atelierophold i New York City for 2024/25 og arbejder i øjeblikket på en monografi sammen med Ursula Pürrer, Rosen Eveleigh, François Pisapia og José Segebre.

This is a different kind of exhibition, and therefore also a different kind of opening. At a time filled with stories of collapse, decline, state terrorism, and leaders with delusions of grandeur, we shift the focus to community and manual work as a democratic tool. The exhibition is open until August 3, 2025.

The solo exhibition "Saving Nine" by Turkish-Canadian artist Elif Saydam begins with a series of workshops – including one on this very opening day, and later with our educational partners and other local groups. Large pieces of canvas will be dyed, among other things, directly on the art center’s rusty roof using cyanotype.

At the opening, we will be sewing together a large community-based artwork that evokes associations with quilting and community art. You will be guided by Elif, Rasmus, and the rest of our team and invited to contribute to the piece, which will carry all of us as co-creators. Here, you can learn to do the quilting pattern “log cabin” and enjoy a social experience while working with your hands.

Of course, you're also welcome to simply watch, chat, and enjoy coffee, bread, and wine.

More about the artist:
Elif Saydam (b. 1985, Canada) lives and works between Berlin, DE and Izmir, TR. Through an expanded painting practice, Saydam uses the language of ornamentation and decoration to rearrange systems of valuation and emphasis. They frequently collaborate on interdisciplinary text-based projects with other artists and writers. Saydam was the recipient of the Hessische Kulturstiftung Atelier in New York City for 2024/25, and is currently working on a monograph with Ursula Pürrer, Rosen Eveleigh, François Pisapia and José Segebre.

Dies ist eine andere Art von Ausstellung – und somit auch eine andere Art von Eröffnung. In einer Zeit voller Erzählungen über Zusammenbruch, Niedergang, Staatsterrorismus und (männliche) Führer mit Größenwahn richten wir den Fokus auf Gemeinschaft und Handarbeit als demokratisches Werkzeug. Die Ausstellung ist bis zum 3. August 2025 geöffnet.

Die Einzelausstellung "Saving Nine" der türkisch-kanadischen Künstlerin Elif Saydam beginnt mit einer Reihe von Workshops – unter anderem auch am Tag der Eröffnung sowie später mit unseren Bildungspartnern und anderen lokalen Gruppen. Dabei werden unter anderem große Stoffbahnen direkt auf dem rostigen Dach der Kunsthalle mit Cyanotypie gefärbt.

Zur Eröffnung nähen wir gemeinsam an einem großen gemeinschaftsbasierten Kunstwerk, das an Quilting und Community Art erinnert. Elif, Rasmus und unser Team begleiten euch dabei und laden euch ein, Teil des Kunstwerks zu werden, das uns alle als Miturheber:innen trägt. Hier könnt ihr das Quiltmuster „Log Cabin“ erlernen und in geselliger Atmosphäre mit den Händen arbeiten.

Natürlich darf man auch einfach nur zuschauen, plaudern und Kaffee, Brot und Wein genießen.

Elif Saydam (geb. 1985, Kanada) lebt und arbeitet zwischen Berlin, DE und Izmir, TR. Durch eine erweiterte Malpraxis nutzt Saydam die Sprache der Ornamentik und Dekoration, um Wert- und Bedeutungssysteme neu zu ordnen.
