Πώς εκτίθεται σε ένα μουσείο μια τέχνη που γεννήθηκε στον δρόμο; Και πώς διασώζεται η μνήμη των γκραφίτι όταν αυτά σβήνονται, γκρεμίζονται ή καλύπτονται;

Η έκθεση «Ορέστης Πάγκαλος. Έργα, γκραφίτι, αρχείο» προσεγγίζει το graffiti και τις υποκουλτούρες της Θεσσαλονίκης ως ένα ζωντανό παλίμψηστο μνήμης. Μέσα από έργα, τεκμήρια, φωτογραφίες, εκδόσεις, συλλογές και θραύσματα του αστικού και φυσικού τοπίου, συνθέτει μια μη γραμμική ανάγνωση της πόλης και της ιστορίας της.

Παρουσιάζονται πρωτότυπα και αδημοσίευτα φωτογραφικά ντοκουμέντα, από τα πρώτα graffiti του Ορέστη Πάγκαλου το 1993 έως τις εγκαταστάσεις και τις εκθεσιακές του παρεμβάσεις. Φωτογραφίες τοιχογραφιών και graffiti, φωτογραφίες εγκαταστάσεων, αντικείμενα συλλεγμένα από τον δρόμο, προβολές, βίντεο και ιστορικό αρχειακό υλικό, που εκτείνονται σε τέσσερις δεκαετίες, ανασυνθέτουν μια διαφορετική ανθρωπογεωγραφία της πόλης.

How can an art form born in the streets be exhibited in a museum? And how can the memory of graffiti be preserved once it is erased, demolished, or covered?

Orestis Pagkalos constructs a non-linear reading of Thessaloniki’s subculture, which thrives in every aspect of the city and its surroundings, and where works, artifacts, photographs, publications, collections, and fragments of its urban and natural landscape function as equal versions of memory—as monuments.

In the exhibition, one can see original and unpublished photographic documents from his earliest graffiti works in 1993 to his installations and exhibition interventions. Through photographs of murals and graffiti, installation views, objects collected from the street, projections, videos, and historical archival material, it approaches subcultures as a palimpsest, reconstructing an alternative human geography of the city.
