Our first meeting will focus on the rise of harassment towards our Indian and Muslim communities. Frisco City Council meetings have turned into a racist circus, reverberating through the runoff for Mayor. Is this hate speech spreading to surrounding cities? Why is our area the second-largest for hate groups in the U.S.? What can we do to support the South Asian and Muslim communities?

We will feature guest speakers who will speak to these questions.

KATRINA MOORE is a Senior Attorney and Operations Administrator at Akula & Associates, P.C., a full-service immigration law firm based in Dallas. She represents corporate and individual clients in a wide range of immigration matters, including employment-based and family-based cases. Her practice encompasses EB-5 investor visas, H-1B, H-2B, E-2, L-1A, adjustment of status, consular processing, and waiver applications.  

SOPHIA ANWAR has worked as Chief of Staff for Representative Salman Bhojani and earned a degree from UT Austin in Government and South Asian Studies. She recently resided on the board of the South Asian American Voter Empowerment (SAAVETX.org), whose mission is to increase the political power of Texas’s South Asian-American community, through education, engagement, and empowerment.

East Denton County Democrats is dedicated to electing Democrats at the city and county level and providing support to state and federal Democratic candidates during primary and general elections. Our reach includes Little Elm, Frisco, The Colony, Carrollton, and portions Plano and Dallas.
