Mother., Jamilah Lemieux and family court lawyer, Kaiesha ScarbroughOver a specially curated menu from Mama Tanya, we will lovingly and candidly discuss radical and intentional mothering & caregiving. What is it? What does it look like in practice? What are the unique and systemic challenges? How do we persist to raise free Black Children.This is a sit down meal and program. Please find resources for childcare as this day is designed to also be respite and a space to speak with candor. Alice Fields Community Center is a courageous space and LGBTQ caregivers are welcomed. A former Senior Editor for EBONY magazine, she has written for major publications including Essence, The Cut, Playboy, the LA Times, the Nation, and Vanity Fair. Known for blending sharp social commentary with deeply personal analysis, Lemieux has become a leading voice in contemporary Black feminism and popular culture criticism. She has appeared on programs such as Nightline and The Daily Show and in a host of documentaries, including Surviving R. Kelly, A People's History (AKA the Black Twitter documentary), and Time of Essence, a 5-part docuseries on the history of Essence magazine for which she served as a producer. Black Single Mother is her first book, and it has been hailed as "one of the most important books of the young century."
