Michael Ulrich graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton WI in 1977, with a BA in Painting and Drawing. He then went to Paris (France!) at Atelier 17, to study with William Hayter. After returning to the states, Michael attended Northern Illinois University and earned his MA in Printmaking and Photography.
 
After grad school, he relocated to Chicago, IL., where he worked mostly in Graphic Arts, primarily as a Production Design Manager for a package design firm and created all types of packaging for commercial retail in grocery stores.
 
During his entire 38 years in Chicago, he always maintained an art studio, whether it was a spare bedroom, the dining room, and finally a separate studio space. After retiring in 2017, Michael and his wife bought a house and studio space in Terre Haute.
