The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is excited to announce the opening of its brand-new MathHappens Room, a hands-on, playful space where visitors of all ages can explore the beauty and creativity of mathematics. To celebrate, the THCM will host a special Fibonacci Day Weekend on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23, filled with activities that reveal the patterns found in nature, art, architecture, and numbers.
Sunday 11/23 echoes the beginning of the Fibonacci sequence: 1-1-2-3, making this the perfect weekend to uncover mathematical wonders together as we take two days to celebrate all kinds of patterns.
*Fibonacci Lemonade
Create layered, colorful lemonade using fun Fibonacci ratios.
*Patterns in Nature Exploration
Discover Fibonacci patterns in pineapples, pinecones, shells, honeycombs, bubbles, sunflowers, and more!
*Fibonacci Calipers Challenge
Use calipers to find real-world objects that match ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 1:1.61 (the golden ratio).
*Bee Family Tree Discovery
Explore how drone bees’ ancestry follows the Fibonacci sequence.
*Architecture Scavenger Hunt
Search the museum for spirals, rectangles, and architectural elements connected to Fibonacci proportions.
This is included with admission or FREE for Members.
