Kinusaiga (Kee-noo-sigh-gah) is a Japanese textile art in which fabric is tucked into narrow grooves cut into a base to create a picture.

Beginners can learn this process quickly, while realistic artwork takes practice. This modern art form is accredited to a Japanese woman named Setsu Maeno. Kinusaiga roughly translates to “silk picture” or “silk painting” She replaces paint with antique kimono silk, creating vibrant works rich in color, pattern, and texture.

All materials for this class are included: precut XPS insulation board (with double sided adhesive tape) as the base, scissors, cotton fabric, and seam rippers used to tuck the fabric.
