Tenor and soprano saxophonist, flutist, and composer Rob Scheps and his Core-tet (featuring Scott Wendholt on trumpet, Jamie Reynolds on piano, David Kingsnorth on bass, and Victor Jones on drums) present a special East Coast sneak peek of his upcoming “Jazz And Soul Portraits” project – a collection of new compositions, each dedicated to an icon of jazz or soul music who has greatly influenced Scheps. Some of the featured musical heroes include Carla Bley, Wayne Shorter, Gary Peacock, and Horace Silver.
Scheps, who has his own citation in The Encyclopedia Of Jazz, has performed and recorded with a long list of notable artists and groups: Buddy Rich, Eartha Kitt, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Jack Jones, The Four Tops, Donna Summer, Leslie Uggams, Gil Evans Band, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, John Scofield, George Russell, Bob Moses, Terumasa Hino, Al Grey, Clark Terry, Sam Rivers, Julius Hemphill, Duffy Jackson, Cecil Taylor, and Joey Calderazzo Quartet. He has performed on international tours in Finland, Canada, Mexico, St. Lucia, Norway, France, Italy, Germany, Taiwan, Sweden, Bermuda, and Japan.
