The Pipipickers play in Katikati on Friday 24th April at The Arts Junction, Katikati! Book tickets and get more info at www.katikatifolkclub.co.nz
The Pipipickers seamlessly blend contemporary innovation with traditional hard-driving bluegrass, driven by a passion to share their love of the genre with audiences everywhere. Their engaging performance style is infectious, bringing smiles and irresistible exuberance to every song, even transforming the darkest murder ballads with joy and energy!
The band’s solid instrumental chops are provided by New Zealand’s best five-string Scruggs-style banjo player, Nat Torkington, who is ably supported by his father Barry on guitar, his wife Jenine Abarbanel on double bass and vocals, and Garry Bigwood on mandolin, guitar and vocals.
"The best newgrass band in New Zealand… songs no-one else in the bluegrass world does. Never get bored at a Pipipickers show!’ - Mike Kear, Music from Foggy Hollow
The Pipis are favourites at New Zealand and Australian music festivals through their vibrant performances, open and inclusive jam sessions, and slow jam workshops. They have been guests at all the major folk festivals in New Zealand, and more than a few smaller ones, as well as festivals in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland… and for a few glorious years they organised a New Zealand national bluegrass festival: Kiwigrass.
