Celebrate Matariki with an interactive outdoor experience for the whole whānau. The matARiki AR Magic Quest invites families to explore the matARiki Sculpture Trail through a guided adventure enhanced with augmented reality on 11 and 18 July.

Artists will share insights into the creative process, technology, and storytelling behind the digital sculptures. Using your own smartphone or tablet (or one of ours), you’ll uncover hidden virtual artworks that bring the trail to life in a whole new way.

The matARiki Sculpture Trail is a groundbreaking, free, and interactive augmented reality (AR) exhibition held in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, during the Matariki festival period. The trail brings together traditional Māori, or mātauranga Māori, with modern digital technology, allowing participants to use their smartphones or tablets to view and interact with 3D digital sculptures.

With four sessions to choose from, the matARiki AR Magic Quest is proudly brought to you by Tauranga City Council. 

Children must be supervised at all times.
