27. veebruaril toimub Kristina Popovi näituse "Soo keha" viimasel päeval finissage. Üritus algab kell 17.00 ning kunstnik Kristina Popov teeb finissage külastajatele näitusel tuuri.

Näitus „Soo keha“ (Body of Mire) keskendub soode ökosüsteemile ja selle rollile ühe kõige suurema süsiniku salvestajana. Konkreetsemalt on Popovi kunstiline uurimusprojekt pühendatud turbasammaldele (Sphagnum). Turbasamblad moodustavad laugastes- ja üleminekurabades tihedaid samblavaipu ning kannavad peamist vastutust turba tekkimisel. Eestis on tuvastatud 40 turbasambla liiki, sealhulgas 12 haruldast liiki, millest nelja ei ole tänaseni dokumenteeritud.

Järjena oma hiljutisele botaanikaaias toimunud soolonäitusele „Soo“, eksponeerib Popov töid, mis on eraldi pühendatud turbasammalde makromaailmale. Tööde puhul on Popov jälginud sammalde sisemisi struktuure ja vormilist ilu. Koostöös teadlaste ja ekspertidega loodud teosed kujutavad mikroskoopilisi pilte ja fotograafilisi analüüse. Kombineeritult moodustavad teosed terviku, mis juhib tähelepanuy soode ökoloogilisele seisundile.

Ühendades teadusliku lähenemise kunstilisega, uurib Popovi projekt interdistsiplinaarsete lähenemiste võimalusi. Eesmärgiks on teadlikustada ökoloogilisi vastastikuseid suhteid ning sõltuvusi ja inspireerida uusi vaatenurki loodusega kooseksisteerimiseks.

Kristina Popov on Serbiast pärit Berliinis tegutsev interdistsiplinaarne kunstnik, kelle looming uurib inimese ja looduse suhteid kliimakriisi kontekstis. Tema töö ühendab kunsti, teadust ja ökoloogilist mõtlemist ning hõlmab fotograafiat, heli, videot ja installatsioone.

On Friday, February 27th, a finissage event will take place on the last day of the exhibition "Body of Mire" by Kristina Popov. The finissage will begin 17.00 and the artist Kristina Popov will be present at the finissage, touring the closing exhibition and answering questions.

Dedicated to the ecosystem of mires and their role as the largest natural carbon sinks, Popov’s ongoing art and research project focuses on the family of peat mosses (Sphagnum). These mosses form dense carpets in raised bogs and transitional mires and are the primary plants responsible for peat formation. In Estonia, 40 species of Sphagnum have been identified, including 12 rare species, despite a targeted search, four of them are not recorded.

Following her recent solo show Soo at the Botanical Garden Tartu, Popov displays in the exhibition at the Natural History Museum works as well as a new focus specifically on the macrocosm of Sphagnum mosses — tracing their internal structures and the formal beauty of these living organisms. Created in collaboration with local researchers and experts, the artworks are combining field research, microscopic images, and photographic analyses to reveal the hidden life and ecological condition of mires.

Linking scientific inquiry with artistic exploration, the project examines the potential of interdisciplinary approaches to rethink the relationship between humans and nature. Its goal is to heighten awareness of ecological interdependencies and inspire new perspectives on coexistence.
