It is October 1944, and Operation Market Garden has come to a grinding halt. The British 2nd Army is now in an unstable position with vulnerable flanks, having dashed headlong up a corridor to link up with 1st Airborne and not quite made it. To shore up this shaky position, XXX Corps is abandoning their position on the Rhine and is withdrawing to a line five miles to the south of Driel.
As a Battalion of the Duke of Glendon's Light Infantry, part of the newly formed 309th Independent Infantry Brigade inside the 49th Infantry Division, you have been eager to prove your battalion has what it takes to do your bit. After languishing in England on garrison duty, you are thrilled your chance to go abroad and put your training into practice has finally arrived.
Your Battalion has been rushed into the line from its sleepy garrison duty in England and it is now at war. The Battalion HQ, of which you are part, is now the nexus of all the decision making for the ~900 soldiers who make up the command. It is up to you to establish your field HQ, get your sector of the frontline established, and stand by for further orders from the Brigade HQ. Once those orders come, it's up to you to make them work.
The survival of your Battalion relies on the competency of its staff, from the officers down to the enlisted soldiery. A message from your Companies being incorrectly received, your Brigade level support not being available just when you need it, or asymmetric activity sabotaging you could make or break it for all the people in your charge.
