Join us with your family and friends for a festive evening of traditional English carols and readings at Tampere Cathedral!
The Carol Service is based on an 1880 design by Edward White Benson of Truro Cathedral, later Archbishop of Canterbury, to create a more uplifting and spiritual Christmas celebration. The original liturgy has since been adapted and used by churches all over the world, with the annual BBC broadcast, since 1928, from King's College, Cambridge, having come to symbolize worldwide the beginning of the Christmas season.
The Tampere tradition of this Festival was begun in 1975 by the Tampere Finnish-British Society together with the Anglican Church in Finland. Thus, 2025 is the Carol Service’s 50th anniversary!
The service will be led by Lay Minister John Mills and Revds. Risto Korhonen & Kati Eloranta
Music will be by Tampere's Sivuääni Medical Orchestra, conducted by Antti Nissilä, the ICCK children’s choir, organist Anna Arola, and Petra Perttula.
The lessons will be read by members of the Finnish-British Society and the International Congregation of Christ the King.
