FILM SYNOPSIS:
Brian Eno once said that the first Velvet Underground album only sold 10,000 copies, but everyone who bought it formed a band. Tampa Theatre played Repo! The Genetic Opera in its first run, back in 2008. And while the response back then may have been on the small side, it would seem that everyone who saw it became obsessed with it. To be fair, if you’re prone to become obsessed with a camp-conscious sci-fi body-horror rock opera, you don’t have many options — Repo! is, first and foremost, an absolutely singular cultural artifact.
In 2056, the megacorporation GeneCo offers organ transplants with a payment plan, and everybody needs them. If you get a GeneCo organ and you miss your payments, they send out the Repo Men. It’s as painful as you imagine. When the CEO of GeneCo, Rotti Largo (Paul Sorvino), discovers he is terminally ill, he decides to pass over his three terrible children and everything to Shilo (Alexa Vega), the daughter of his late ex-fiancée. All Shilo wants to do is cure herself of her rare, awful disease that keeps her indoors forever. She believes learning more about her family is the only way to do that. And all the clues point her back to GeneCo, Largo, and the wildly anticipated upcoming Genetic Opera. It also stars Paris Hilton and Sarah Brightman. This is important to know.
