Born on March 24, 1963, in El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, Spain, José Cortés hails from a distinguished Gitano family with deep flamenco roots. He began playing guitar professionally at 15, quickly earning recognition from the legendary Paco Cepero, and became known as a versatile and expressive guitarist.
José performed at major flamenco festivals with his father, Pansequito del Puerto, and shared the stage with icons such as Camarón de la Isla, Diego el Cigala, Tomatito, and Rancapino. In 1990, he collaborated with Raymundo Amador and Grammy-winner Rosarito Flores on the album Ley, leading to international tours with stars including Azúcar Moreno, Raphael, José Greco, Lola Flores, and Rocío Jurado.
A talented composer and producer, José created musical theater works like El Sol de los Gitanos and El Sueño de un Torero, and contributed to Isabel Pantoja’s film Yo Soy Esa. Today, he proudly continues his family’s flamenco legacy, presenting his first solo album, recorded in Mérida, Yucatán, celebrating the heart and soul of flamenco.
Born and raised in Chicago, Cristina Gutiérrez Sirbubalo is a natural-born dancer with an innate sense of rhythm. She began her formal training at Northeastern Illinois University, earning her degree with scholarships in Contemporary Dance under Venetia Stifler. She also specialized in Spanish Escuela Bolera Dance under Dame Libby Komaiko.
Cristina’s passion for flamenco led her to Spain, where she trained with masters including Juana Amaya, Carmen Ganero, and Lola de Cai, mastering Seguirías, Tangos de Málaga, Bulerías, and Soleá. She also studied with Carmela Grego, Edo Sie, and Azucena Vega, performing with companies like Soul & Duende and bands such as Guitarra Azul, whose video Tres Lagrimas has over 50 million views. She has performed with Gypsy Influence internationally, on The Podium in Camargue, France.
Cristina founded the flamenco group Ojos Gitanos in Chicago, and later, with her husband Haris Sirbubalo, created Chicago Flamenco Beat, hosting renowned artists like José Cortés Panzekito and Ricardo Diaz. Since 2021, she has continued sharing flamenco in Florida with Sombras Flamencas and Jaleo, bringing her artistry to new audiences.
Haris Sirbubalo, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, was born into a family of musicians and has explored Flamenco, Blues, Rock, and Jazz. His career began in Chicago (2001), performing in local blues and rock venues. He played with ODE, recording at Electrical Audio Studio with Steve Albini, and later co-founded The Streems, releasing three albums (2009–2019).
In 2009, Haris discovered flamenco after meeting dancer Cristina Gutiérrez Sirbubalo. He mastered the cajón and joined Soul Duende in 2011, performing with Jesús de Araceli, Azucena Vega, and Lily Vega at Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music. He later worked with Mehran Jalili, Maya Tatiana, and co-founded Chicago Flamenco Beat (2018) and work with Ricardo Diaz and Patricia La Tiranta on this project.
Since moving to Tampa, Florida (2021), Haris performs with Sombras Flamencas and guitarist Javier Hinojosa, and collaborates with David Muñoz at venues like The Palladium in St. Petersburg.
His dynamic percussion and deep flamenco rhythm mastery make him a sought-after musician in the flamenco scene today.
