Philly Joe’s kuulub suvi residentidele! Lava on Eesti noore muusikapõlvkonna tõusvate tähtede päralt — omanäolised bändijuhid ja värske helikeelega muusikud, kes juba praegu kujundavad siinse alternatiivskeene tulevikku.

Igal õhtul on uus fookus, kõla ja kooslus, alates uue materjali esmaesitlustest kuni kordumatute eksperimentide ja hilisõhtuste jämmideni.

“Selection of Standards”, 18. juuni

Karl Martin Kirm on jazz-trummar ja helilooja. Ta on lõpetanud Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia ning õpib hetkel magistriõppes Codartsi ülikoolis Rotterdamis. Muusikas väärtustab ta interaktiivset koosmängu ning otsib nii heliloomingus kui ka pillimängus viise, kuidas end selgelt ja ekspressiivselt väljendada. Trummarina huvitavad Karli eelkõige dünaamiliselt vaoshoitud ja atmosfäärilised kõlamaailmad, mis annavad tema mängule maheda tonaalsuse ning toovad esile tema tundlikkuse kaasmuusikute suhtes. Lisaks peab Karl oluliseks traditsioonilise jazzi helikeelt ning eelmise sajandi suurkujude pärandi hoidmist.

Karl Martin Kirm alustab oma residentuuri kummardusega jazzitraditsiooni legendidele ning toob lavale valiku standardeid ja teda enim mõjutanud heliloojate loomingut. Esitusele tuleb muusikat sellistelt autoritelt nagu Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton ja Bill Evans ning ka kaasaegsetelt artistidelt nagu Kenny Garrett ja Joshua Redman. Lisaks Kirmile astuvad lavale Eesti noorema põlvkonna andekad jazzmuusikud, kes aitavad luua vaba ning energiast pakatava keskkonna improviseerimiseks ja koosmänguks.

“Selection of Standards”, June 18

Karl Martin Kirm is an Estonian jazz drummer and composer. He holds a degree from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Codarts University in Rotterdam. In his music, Karl values interactive ensemble play and seeks ways to express himself clearly and expressively both as a composer and performer. As a drummer, Kirm is particularly drawn to dynamically restrained and atmospheric soundscapes, which give his playing a soft tonal quality and highlight his sensitivity towards fellow musicians. He also places great importance on the language of traditional jazz and the legacy of the great masters of the 20th century.

Karl Martin Kirm opens his residency with a tribute to the legends of jazz tradition, presenting a selection of standards and compositions by composers who have strongly influenced his musical development. The program features works by Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton, and Bill Evans, as well as contemporary artists such as Kenny Garrett and Joshua Redman. Joining Kirm on stage are talented young Estonian jazz musicians, who help create a free and energetic environment for improvisation and collective interplay.
