EKKM-i juhatus pani aluse Köler Prize’i kaasaegse kunsti auhinnale 15 aastat tagasi, et tutvustada Eesti kaasaegset kunsti ja loomingulises kõrgvormis Eesti kunstnikke. Auhinna eesmärk oli tuua kunst ja kunstnikud ühiskonnas suurema tähelepanu alla ning väärtustada ka kultuuri laiemalt. Köler Prize’ile nomineeritakse viis eesti päritolu või Eestis alaliselt resideeruvat kunstnikku või kunstirühmitust viimase kolme aasta loomingulise tegevuse põhjal. Köler Prize’i nominendid valib EKKM-i juhatus; alates 2026. aastast juhatus ja tegevtiim. Aastatel 2011–2018 toimus Köler Prize seitsmel korral – vahele jäi vaid aasta 2017. Alates 2018. aastast on Köler Prize EKKM-i jaoks keeruliste olude tõttu olnud nn sundpuhkusel, kuid pole möödunud ühtegi aastat ega näituseavamist, mil keegi poleks preemiaprojekti naasmise kohta küsinud või selle järele igatsust väljendanud.

Köler Prize näituse avamine toimub 10. aprillil kl 19.00 ning jääb avatuks 5. juulini 2026. 

2026. aastal on 15 000€ suuruse peaauhinna sponsor on Eesti kultuuriväljast endast välja kasvanud indie-videomängude stuudio ZA/UM ja selle moeosakond ZA/UM Atelier. Publikupreemia summas 5000€ paneb välja pikaaegne kultuuri toetaja advokaadibüroo COBALT. Publikupreemia fondi saavad panustada ka külastajad ning annetuses osalenute vahel loositakse välja teatripiletid Von Krahli ja Ekspeditsiooni etendustele ning eriauhinnad ZA/UMilt ja COBALTilt.

2026. aasta auhinnažüriisse kuuluvad kreeka kuraator ja kunstiteadlane Panos Giannikopoulos, Ruperti kunstiresidentuuri ja publikuprogrammide kuraator Monika Lipšic, kuraator ja PUBLICSi kunstiline juht Paul O’Neill ning eelmise, 2018. aastal toimunud näituse peapreemia laureaadid Tanja Muravskaja ja Anna Škodenko.

Köler Prize’i suurprojektiga kaasneb kataloog, mille on koostanud kunstiajaloolane ja -kriitik Andreas Trossek, kujundanud EKKM-i 2026. aasta graafiline disainer Rasmus Einman.

Tagasi tuuakse ka nominentide loomingut tutvustav film „Ekraaniproovid Köler Prize’ile“, režissööriks Piibe Kolka ja loovprodutsendiks Brigit Arop. Filmi esilinastus toimub 24. aprillil kl 20.00 kinos Sõprus. 
12. juunil leiab aset suurejooneline auhinnagala, mille raames selgub Köler Prize peapreemia laureaat ja publiku lemmik. Gala lavastavad kunstnikud Katariin Mudist ja Keithy Kuuspu.

EKKM’s 20th jubilee season kicks off on April 10 with the return of the Köler Prize! The nominees for the 2026 Köler Prize are Anna Mari Liivrand, Darja Popolitova, Hanna Samoson, Keiu Maasik, and Taavi Suisalu. In 2026, the main prize of €15,000 will be sponsored by the indie video game studio ZA/UM. The €5,000 audience award will be awarded by the law firm COBALT. 

The Köler Prize exhibition opens on April 10 at 19 and will remain open until July 5, 2026.

The EKKM Board established the Köler Prize for contemporary art 15 years ago to promote Estonian contemporary art and Estonian artists at the peak of their creative powers. The aim of the prize was to bring art and artists to the forefront of public attention and to promote culture more broadly. Five Estonian artists or collectives or artists based in Estonia are nominated for the Köler Prize each time, based on their work of the last three years. The nominees of the Köler Prize are selected by the board of EKKM; since 2026 the nominees are selected by the board and EKKM team. Between 2011 and 2018, the Köler Prize was awarded seven times—with the exception of 2017. Since 2018, the Köler Prize has been on a temporary break for EKKM due to challenging financial circumstances, but not a single year or exhibition opening has passed without someone asking about the return of the prize project or expressing a longing for it.

In 2026, the €15,000 main prize is sponsored by the indie video game studio ZA/UM, which emerged from the Estonian cultural field, together with its fashion division ZA/UM Atelier. The €5,000 Audience Award is supported by the long-time patron of culture, the law firm COBALT. Visitors can also contribute to the Audience Award fund; contributors will be entered into a raffle to win theatre tickets to performances by Von Krahl and Expedition, as well as special prizes from ZA/UM and COBALT.

The jury for the 2026 award includes Greek curator and art historian Panos Giannikopoulos; Monika Lipšic, curator of the Rupert Residency and Public Programme; curator and Director of Publics Paul O’Neill; and the previous Köler Prize (2018) main prize winners, Tanja Muravskaja and Anna Škodenko.

The large-scale exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue compiled by art historian and critic Andreas Trossek and designed by EKKM’s 2026 graphic designer Rasmus Einman.

Also returning is the film introducing the nominees’ work, Screen Tests for Köler Prize 2026, directed by Piibe Kolka and produced by Brigit Arop. The film premieres on April 24 at 20 at Cinema Sõprus.

A grand awards gala will take place on June 12, where the recipient of the Köler Prize main prize and the Audience Award will be announced. The gala is staged by artists Katariin Mudist and Keithy Kuuspu.
