An internationally acclaimed performer, choreographer, and teacher, he holds postgraduate degrees from SEAD (Austria) and APASS (Belgium). With extensive training in yoga, Kalari Payattu, and contemporary dance, he is the recipient of the Pecda Award for his work Architect of Self Destruction. Abhilash has taught and performed globally, and regularly leads workshops in performance, improvisation, and composition. He also curates the Play Practice Apprenticeship, India Contact Festival, Partner Dance Festival, as well as annual artist residencies, martial arts trainings, and yoga retreats. Drawing from his rich background in contemporary dance, Kalari Payattu, and yoga, Abhilash Ningappa offers a unique approach to Contact Improvisation that emphasizes embodied awareness, reflexive responsiveness, and physical dialogue. His workshops explore the interplay between structure and spontaneity, using tools from martial arts and somatic practices to deepen sensitivity, connection, and trust between partners. Through guided scores, dynamic exploration, and compositional tools, participants are invited into a space of attentive listening and creative risk-taking—where movement emerges from presence, touch, and shared momentum. ***ELISE MAE NUDING is an artist-researcher and educator, a mover and a seeker, who thrives in the confluence of different knowledges. She has been making work, performing, writing, and teaching within the field of dance and choreography since 2014. Contact Improvisation has been a central aspect of her practice since she first encountered it in 2010 studying with Nancy Stark-Smith. More broadly, movement improvisation practices continue to be sphere of enquiry and inspiration – not least as a joyful way of co-creating and connecting with others! In these workshops we will explore the possibilities that physical contact with other bodies creates for dancing together – how touch invites meetings of knowledges, reorientations of perception, and slippages of experience. In the 3 sessions we will revisit some basic principles of CI, explore how to share and receive weight in functional and supportive ways, and expand our kinaesthetic orientations in space.
