# Event Details

- **Event Name**: SciSalon - Diet at Mission San Luis (1656 – 1704)
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 20 Nov, 2025 at 07:00 pm – Thu, 20 Nov, 2025 at 08:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Mission San Luis was one of the most important Spanish missions in Apalachee Province, the region between the Aucilla and Ochlockonee Rivers, during the Mission Period (1633 – 1704). The mission’s second location, occupied between 1656 and 1704, was purchased by the State of Florida in 1983.

Since that time, extensive archaeological and historical research has given insight into many aspects of seventeenth-century life at the mission. Mr. Lee will share what we have learned about the diets of both the Apalachees and the Spaniards who lived at the mission for nearly 50 years.

The resulting artifacts, such as colonoware blending European and Apalachee designs, reflect the deep cultural fusion that characterized life at Mission San Luis.
