Engaging with her father Ed Love’s artistic legacy as a major sculptor of the Black Arts generation, this newest iteration reckons with the vexed matter of inheritance in Afro-diasporic history.Movement collaborators Cyan Hunter, Marco Farroni, Makeda-Lily Love-Roney, Jesse Phillips-Fein, Jelani Taylor, Diana Uribe, and Jessica Ziegler join nia love in animating this installation with choreographed scores and improvised actions. Within this whirl of activity and speculation, Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father’s Garden blurs distinctions of audience and performance, animate and inanimate, land and water, past and present.​The performance program of Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father’s Garden will run from August 27-29: August 27 and 28, at 5:30 pm, and August 29 at 11:30 am and 3:30 pm. Tickets are free, but space is limited. Reserve your seat now.A public reception marking the exhibition's opening will be held on Thursday, September 3, from 5:30-7:30 pm.The presentation of Floating Metal: UNDERcurrents In My Father's Garden by nia love was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation. Additional support comes from FSU’s Council on Research + Creativity (CRC).Duration:Approximately 90 minutesAttendee note:This performance is immersive, and while seating will be provided throughout the space, attendees are encouraged to sit, stand, or move through the galleries alongside the performers.
