From 2023 through 2025, Mierzwa photographed the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. Not intended as conventional pretty postcard landscapes, these images employ minimalist composition. The organic look of black and white processed in a high acutance developer captures the austere beauty of the Kalmiopsis. 

Using a compact and durable 25-year-old rangefinder camera, Ken was able to facilitate spontaneous and intuitive image capture while indulging in occasional off-trail excursions. The results convey some hint of the powerful emotions unleashed by a visit to this vast fire-scarred but resilient landscape.
