Tango is a passionate and dramatic partner dance that originated in the working-class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay, in the late 19th century. More than just a sequence of steps, it is a profound improvised dialogue between two people, characterized by a close embrace, intricate footwork, and a deep, intuitive connection that allows partners to move as one. Performed to a distinctive, often melancholic music that shares its name, Tango embodies a wide spectrum of human emotions, from longing and nostalgia to intensity and joy. It is an art form that blends elegance, sensuality, and raw emotional expression, making it a captivating and globally celebrated cultural phenomenon.
Worshipful Brother Ted Berry and Reiko Green will discuss the history, examples of the types of music, and instruction through demonstration and audience participation.
WB Berry was raised a Master Mason in 1991 in the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He joined Benjamin B. French Lodge No. 15 in 1999 and was its Worshipful Master in 2005 and other two other DC Lodges as well. He has served the Grand Lodge, chairing and participating in various committees over the years.
In 2013, Argentine tango found him and within a year, he was fully immersed. Ever since, he has traveled the country and made the pilgrimage to Buenos Aires three times chasing the dance.
Reiko Green also started dancing in 2013 and they met in class about a year later. Over the past few years, they have taught and performed, however, their main interest is in exploring the personal and artistic expression of the dance and consider themselves "obsessed enthusiasts. "
