The story follows Ruby, an eight-year-old who lives by the sea on Waiheke. When illness keeps her home from school, she begins to notice the birds in the bush around her cottage… until one night, she hears a mysterious call — could it really be a kiwi? 

This heartwarming local story also aligns beautifully with the recent release of ten kiwi on Waiheke, marking the first reintroduction of the species to an urban area in Auckland! ?
